What does LEARNING/TEACHING “Outside the Line” mean?

The truth is that for many children, the learning environment and situations can be a very stressful experience, where a child is very sensitive to the possibility of performing poorly in front of their peers. On the other side of the fence, teachers feel pressured to help every child perform well on academic tests in order to please the parents and ensure that the child is adequately prepared for the next grade.

My unique methodology can alleviate the performance anxieties affecting both students and their teachers/ parents(taking on the role of a trainer), by helping them to design flexible instructional content in various ways so that many options are possible for exploration by eager students and their adventurous teachers.

When I was conceptualizing the names of my programs, I was aware of the message that I wanted to communicate with homeschooling parents and teachers who can benefit from this unique methodology. The empowering message that I wanted to share is: “You can establish flexible and freedom-based educational content for your child learners.”

Thus, when I conceptualized the program name “Learning Outside the Line,” for providing educational services and content to help homeschooling parents, the phrase “Outside the Line” seemed appropriate to capture my intentions -that “you (as a parent) can establish many unique learning pathways” for your children.

And, when I conceptualized the program name “Teaching Outside the Line,” for providing educational services and content to help teachers, the phrase“Outside the Line” was also appropriate to imply “you (as a teacher) can establish many unique learning pathways” for your child students in the classroom, just as I had done.

The main point I wanted to communicate is that there is no “single” line representing the ONLY“right” way to learn or to teach, regardless of which side of the learning fence that you are viewing from (as a learner or as a teacher). Many varied learning pathways exist in theory, and there is tremendous freedom and joy involved in discovering this.

As mentioned before,I’ve learned over 42 years of teaching that a single teaching method does not reach all children.  Why should we expect such a limited way of delivering education to work well for a mixed population of children with different genetics and cultural conditioning? It makes sense to create a dynamic learning environment (i.e. “active learning”) where boredom is a remote possibility because the learner and the “instructor” are both enjoying the new insights gained from more effective educational methods.  Taking into consideration the different types of intelligences of child learners, expressed as different “learning styles,” is a sound and empathic way of responding to each child’s unique learning strengths and unique circumstances. Using my philosophy and methods can create free thinkers during the active learning process, who will eventually become tomorrow’s leaders andcapable citizens, who are not afraid to try something new EVERY SINGLE TIME.

My Philosophy of Education

My mission is to educate and support homeschooling parents to inspire, lead, and empower their children along their children’s “unique learning pathways,” which exist metaphorically “outside the line.”

I wrote a book entitled, ‘Learning Outside the Line, Innovative Homeschool Solutions,’ to empower parents to believe that they can teach their children a solid education in a very informal but more effective way by focusing on establishing “unique learning pathways”instead of being intellectually imprisoned by following outdated, one-dimensional educational formats that do not work equally well for all children.

I developed a better approach through four decades of teaching young children in my classrooms.  I am confident that my programs for homeschooling parents can teach them how to activate their children’s strengths in a manner that most authentically resonates with each child’s unique intelligences. Since the parental decision to homeschool often can translate to the home education for multiple children, learning these empowering methods can be very critical for the success of all children involved.

My coaching programs can deliver outstanding results because they’re based on this unique blend of philosophy and methodology, which I applied over my 42-year successful career as a teacher in pre-K-12 educational institutions. I empowered my students to raise their academic performance to levels that were presumed impossible in public schools.

My success as an “enlightened educator” is attributed to learning and creatively applying “The Theory of Multiple Intelligences” originally developed by Dr. Howard Gardner.  I learned the concepts concerning the existence of multiple intelligences in adult populations, and I adjusted them to support the educational development of child learners in my classrooms so that they felt inspired, empowered, and excited to learn more. I noticed that each child truly desires to learn. However, one format of delivery of educational content is not able to reach all children

My training modality, which has been tested and optimized over decades “in the trenches” of classrooms can work for homeschooling parents and teachers specializing in pre-K-12 education. During my 42-year career, I realized that children come from all walks of life, with all sorts of values and norms, depending on how they were raised.  When the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the world, it crippled children in ways that we are still battling. When I began receiving phone calls from frustrated parents and confused former students, I realized I could do more than help someone here and there.  Thus, I created a one-of-a-kind, unique coaching program to help homeschooling parents (who need more professional guidance) and teachers who enjoy honing their “training” craft.

I’m currently writing a second book, “Teaching Outside the Line, Innovative Teaching Solutions,” which will be published this fall. Be sure to check it out!
